GENERAL ORDERS
NUMBER 56

ANNOUNCEMENT OF DEATH

It is my sad duty to announce the death of Cadet Harry Evans Lardin, Jr., a member of the Class of 1961, United States Corps of Cadets, whose death occurred as the result of a heart attack at West Point, New York, on 4 November 1957. Burial with military honors will be held in the Post Cemetery at West Point on 7 November 1957, following services to be held in the Old Cadet Chapel at 1400 hours that date.

The late Cadet Lardin was born in El Paso, Texas, on 15 June 1937, a son of Colonel and Mrs. Harry Evans Lardin. Colonel Lardin, now stationed with the United States Army in Germany, was a 1934 graduate of the Military Academy. Cadet Lardin was appointed to the United States Military Academy through the Organized Reserve Corps as a member of the Army Reserve. Prior to his admission to the Corps of Cadets on 2 July 1957, Cadet Lardin had attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia; graduated from Fort Knox High School, Kentucky, and attended the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at Stewart Air Force Base, Newburgh, New York. During this time he was active in Boy Scouts, student government, debate, dramatics, and athletics.

While at the United States Military Academy, Cadet Lardin was conscientious in his studies, attaining proficiency in all subjects. In addition to the fulfillment of his academic duties, Cadet Lardin was a member of the Corps Swimming Squad. He was in all respects a young man of excellent character, personality, and promise who had well justified his appointment to the United States Corps of Cadets.

I extend the deep and sincere sympathy of myself and the officers, cadets, and other members of this command to the parents of the late Cadet Lardin in their bereavement. His unfortunate and untimely death is mourned as a distinct and regrettable loss to all who knew him well.
