Tschamler, Joseph

September 3, 1938 - July 30, 2023

Joseph Rudolph Tschamler, "Joe," 84, of Winston-Salem, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday morning, July 30, 2023.

Joe was born in Augusta, Maine, to Joseph and Adelaide Tschamler. After graduating from Cony High School, he attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served four years in the Infantry, completing Airborne and Ranger schools. After his Army service, Joe taught school in Maine, before deciding to walk the Appalachian Trail. During his journey on the Trail, Joe accepted Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade in Knoxville, TN. He finally settled in Winston-Salem, as a teacher at South Park Christian School, where he met his future wife. Joe then spent 25 years working for the City of Winston-Salem in Human Resources, where he was known for his kindness, willingness to help others, and dedication to his work.

Joe loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the Gospel message with others. He was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He also loved music, poetry, gardening, being outdoors and at the beach, but most of all he loved his family.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Allene Tschamler, and daughter, Addie McKee, and her husband, Michael; in addition to three grandchildren whom he treasured very much: David, Elizabeth, and Mary.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, August 9 at 11 a.m. at Northwoods Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwoods Baptist Church, 5204 Old Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, or the Salvation Army at 2850 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
