German Restaurant
|
Hollerbach's Willow Tree Cafe - Genuine German Beer, Food, and
Entertainment
All the good fun,
drinks, and food most experienced in Germany.
This is the place
where Gemütlichkeit happens in Historic Downtown Sanford, Florida.
Theo and Linda Hollerbach dreamed of opening
their own restaurant in 1981 while working together at a German
restaurant in Orlando. After two decades of hard work and planning,
that dream became reality on August 1, 2001 with just seven
employees. Since then, they’ve continually expanded the
restaurant, added two more businesses, and grown their staff to over
100 employees. The once 70 seat restaurant will be a 665 seat
restaurant after the completion of the 2020 Project Hollerblock,
which will add a Bar Lodge and Rooftop Biergarten.
One source of continuing inspiration for the
Hollerbach Family has been watching their home of downtown Sanford
grow and thrive along with their own businesses. They have always
had the mission of making their town a dining and entertainment
destination in Central Florida. Through the continued efforts of the
neighbors and fellow business owners, Sanford has a great reputation
of a strong sense of community that knows how to have fun.

Lake Dora Cruise on the Dora Queen
|
Dora Queen – Sunset Cruise
Private cruise for sunset on Lake Dora with
cash bar.
Dora Queen is a luxury 80-foot New Orleans style paddlewheel boat
located in Tavares, Florida. Dora Queen offers 2 hour cruises
and serves as a unique venue for private events. Take in the
majestic views of beautiful Lake Dora from the comfort of our lounge
style seating while enjoying music and cocktails from our full service bars on the upper and lower decks.
Brian and Brandy Herron wanted a way for locals and tourists to enjoy
the beauty of Lake Dora while offering a unique experience. Their
goal is to add to the charm of the community with a fun and
enjoyable new attraction.
In 2017, they had the idea to seek out the old paddlewheel boat that
was originally parked on the Dead River in Tavares. This boat
was special to them because they had their wedding rehearsal dinner
on it almost 20 years prior. They were quickly connected with
Robbie Cunningham, owner of the boat. After seeing it, they
knew they wanted to purchase it and their vision began from there.
The Dora Contessa, the original paddlewheel boat was powered by two 90
horsepower engines and could carry up to 49 passengers. Now
named the Dora Queen she is 80 feet long and 35 feet wide. The Dora
Queen is powered by two 250 horsepower engines and has the capacity
for 70 passengers. Commissioned and built by Robbie Cunningham
at Trident Pontoons in Tavares, Florida, the construction of the
vessel took over two years. The original paddlewheel and helm
are still a part of the vessel today.
The Dora Queen has two levels of lounge style seating, two bars and a
state of the art sound system. So sit back, relax and enjoy
all the majestic views that Lake Dora has to offer.

De Leon
Springs State Park
|
About the Park
The
Visitor Center features exhibits on the park's
rich history and artifacts on display from the Mayaca. The swimming
area is adjacent to a beautiful, shady picnic ground. Canoe, kayak
and paddleboat rentals are available for a paddling tour of the
spring and spring run. De Leon Springs flows into the Lake Woodruff
National Wildlife Refuge where canoeists and kayakers can explore
18,000 acres of lakes, creeks and marshes.
An all-terrain wheelchair
and a standard wheelchair are provided for visitors who need
assistance getting around the park, including the paved nature
trail.
The
Old Spanish Sugar Mill
The
Old Spanish Sugar Mill sits beside the spring named for the
legendary explorer Ponce De Leon. Originally constructed in the
1830’s to crush sugar cane utilizing the power of the 16 – 18
million gallons of water flowing from the spring daily, the mill
features a 30 foot undershot waterwheel. The mill was rebuilt around
1900. A chimney, which remains on the site, was part of the original
sugar mill operation, and displays a 1931 DAR plaque proclaiming the
date of 1570 as the year of mill construction. This was based on
inaccurate information. The mill was destroyed twice over the years.
It was destroyed during the Second Seminole War in 1835 and again
during the Civil War in 1864 when the mill was being used to provide
corn for the Confederate troops. Legend tells of mill stones being
thrown into the spring although none have ever been recovered.
The
Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House
In 1961 the mill was again scheduled
for destruction. Just an old building to many, but Peter Schwarze
felt quite differently. A fifth generation grist miller newly
arrived in Florida. Peter saw
treasure that must be saved. He arranged to lease and restore the
mill, moved his wife and daughter to the “Fountain of Youth” and
began once again grinding flour in the mill building. His gristmill
was of his own design, an adjustable under runner mill with small
French Buhr stones that were electrically powered. The setting was
perfect and the restaurant and bakery utilizing his flours began.
The Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House restaurant
continues under family operation today. Customers sit at tables with
electric griddles in the center and make their own pancakes right on
the griddles. They are served two different types of homemade
pancake batters, one containing stone-ground corn, wheat, rye, whole
wheat and buckwheat flours and the other made from unbleached white
flour. Other standard
breakfasts, salads, and sandwiches are also offered.

St Augustine
|
St. Augustine (from Spanish: San Agustín) is a city in the Southeastern
United States, on the Atlantic
coast of northeastern Florida. Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, it
is the oldest
continuously-inhabited European-established
settlement in the contiguous
United States.
St. Augustine was founded on September 8, 1565, by Spanish admiral Pedro
Menéndez de Avilés, Florida's first
governor. He named the settlement "San Agustín", as his ships bearing
settlers, troops, and supplies from Spain had first sighted land in
Florida eleven days earlier on August 28, the feast
day of St.
Augustine.[7] The city served as the capital of Spanish
Florida for over 200 years. It was
designated as the capital of British East
Florida when the colony was established in 1763;
Great Britain returned Florida to Spain in 1783.
Spain ceded Florida to the United States in 1819, and St. Augustine was
designated the capital of the Florida
Territory upon
ratification of the Adams–Onís
Treaty in
1821. The Florida
National Guard made the city its headquarters that same year. The
territorial government moved and made Tallahassee the
capital of Florida in 1824.
The county
seat of St.
Johns County, St. Augustine is part of Florida's First
Coast region and the Jacksonville
metropolitan area. Since the late 19th century, St. Augustine's distinct
historical character has made the city a tourist attraction.

The Barn Antiques
|
The Barn Antiques,
established 1969, is a large, family-run antique shop in rural Central Florida, about one hour from the class hotel. We
sell a wide variety of items, most of them dating from the early
19th through early 20th centuries. We are proud to keep two spacious
showrooms, an extensive area for stained glass, and an all new area
featuring unusual outdoor items such as antique chimney pots and
iron gates. Since The Barn was founded, it has expanded within
the family to include a variety of shops.
The Barn has long been
a landmark in the Central Florida
area. If you've never come to see us, you can read about our history and
our stores here. During regular trips abroad, we hand-pick the best
pieces for the showrooms from our wide network of well-established
contacts. Along with our extensive local buying, this lets us always
have on hand a fresh selection of the highest quality, most
affordably priced antiques - big and small - to be found.
