Class Memorial Pages\H-1 Mike Xenos.pdf Our classmate, Michael J. Xenos, died on Tuesday,
November 28, 2000, at the Hospice of Northern Virginia, Arlington, Virginia.
Mike succumbed after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. |
Mike was born in Greece on March 22, 1936, but
considered Seattle, Washington, his hometown. After graduating from high
school, he joined the Army and rose to the rank of Corporal. He attended
the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at Stewart Air Force Base
in 1956–1957 where he was a squad leader and the Prep School detachment
representative to the Pointer View. The Prep School yearbook highlights
Mike’s penchant for “harassing the troops” as he was often heard commanding,
“All right, keep it at EASE!” |
As the 1961 Howitzer states, Mike |
“. . . was well known to all as a varsity manager. His academic
fortunes ran the gamut of success, from a harrowing experience with the
English Department to some ‘solid’ victories over the Department of Mechanics.
His selflessness and generosity have won him a group of loyal friends.”
|
Mike, Elaine, and family truly appreciate the
many expressions of concern from his classmates during his illness. |
Upon graduation, Mike was commissioned in the
Signal Corps. After many significant staff and command assignments, including
command of the 8th Signal Battalion, Mike retired in 1980. In retirement,
Mike worked for Boeing Computer Services and the BDM Corporation before
starting his own company, Sonex Enterprises, Inc. |
Mike was buried with full honors at Arlington
National Cemetery. |
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine;
sons, John, Dean, Christopher, and Andreas; and six grandchildren. Condolences
can be sent to Elaine and family at 3902 Ridgelea Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031. |
Mike, your classmates salute you for a job “Well
Done! Be thou at peace.” |
