Gerard Henry Clements

June 22, 1939 - June 19, 2024

Gerard “Jerry” Henry Clements, known affectionately as “Moon”, passed away on June 19, 2024. Born on June 22, 1939 in Long Island, NY, he was the eldest son of Helen and Henry Clements. He graduated from the prestigious Chaminade High School where he excelled in both academics and sports; in fact, Jerry was the #1 football recruit from the state of New York and was awarded and accepted an accommodation to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also excelled as a cadet and student athlete at West Point; he was a four year letterman in both track and field and in his favorite sport, football. He started at offensive left tackle during all four years at West Point and blocked for Pete Dawkins, the 1958 Heisman Trophy winner, on the last undefeated West Point team in 1958.

After his graduation in 1961, He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii with the 25th Infantry Division where he trained and was accepted as an Army Ranger. He proudly served for three years. He would survive two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Air Medal Award for his single acts of heroism while performing his duties in aerial flight for the US Army Air Force. During his army service, Jerry met the love of his life, Pamela Oswalt who happened to be visiting Hawaii during her college years. Soon after, they would marry on June 27, 1963 in her hometown of Abilene and then settle into their new hometown of Dallas, Texas. Together they built a life rich in love and laughter and their union of 60 years blessed them with four children. Jerry attended and graduated SMU Law school in 1967. He practiced as a solo practitioner for over 60 years. His legal career was characterized by a meticulous dedication to his craft, serving his clients with astute attention to detail and care.

Not only was Jerry a loving and devoted husband to Pam, he was an incredibly devoted and attentive father to his children and grandchildren. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He was always on the sidelines of any athletic event cheering his children and grandchildren on, no matter rain or shine; we all knew he was going to be there in the stands or on the sideline. He was the most proud and happiest when he was with his family. His faith and devotion to the Catholic church was also so admirable. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic church for over sixty years and there was never a week during which he missed mass! He was an avid reader, crossword aficionado, amateur photographer; collector of rare coins and stamps and a deft gardener to name just a few of his hobbies.

Jerry is survived by his sibling Lorraine Clements and three children and their spouses; Cristin and Brad Miller of Houston, Texas; Stephen and Hope Clements of Dallas, Texas; and Jud and Helen Clements of Dallas, Texas. Jerry “Moon” adored his grandchildren and is also survived by them - Cole Miller; Carson Miller Cone (married to Luke Cone of Houston, Texas), Z Clements, Camden Miller, Hank Clements, Hallie Clements, Charlie Clements, and Sarah Cate Clements. Jerry was blessed to have met his first great grandchild, Hensley Carlisle Cone (daughter of Luke and Carson Miller Cone). He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment to family and faith, as well as cherished memories with his children and grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife Pam; his son Sean Clements; and his brothers, Richard and Robert and his sister, Diane.

The family extends gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, especially acknowledging his attentive and compassionate caregivers Caroline, Sarah, Catherine, Seletha and Cindy.

He will be laid to rest on June 27, 2024 at Dallas National Cemetery with a short service to honor his life. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His was a life well lived, full of purpose, joy and an abundance of love and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
